You never fail unless you quit trying
Substance Abuse Treatment can occur in a variety of settings, in many different forms, and for different lengths of time. Because drug addiction and alcoholism are typically a chronic disorder characterized by occasional relapses, a short-term, one-time treatment often is not sufficient. For many, treatment is a long-term process that involves multiple interventions and attempts at abstinence. Families should understand that getting sober is a process, not an event. Our philosophy at Ambrosia is that” You never fail unless you quit trying”.
Alcoholism and drug addiction are complex but treatable diseases. They are characterized by craving and compulsions that persist even in the face of adverse consequences. Addiction is a chronic disease in which relapse occurs at alarming rates. However, through drug treatment tailored to an individual’s needs, people with drug and alcohol addictions can recover and lead productive lives. |
The ultimate goal of drug rehab is sobriety.
Sobriety is more than just being abstinent from alcohol and drugs. Since addiction is a three-fold disease; physical, mental, and spiritual, all three parts of the addicted person must be treated to manifest total sobriety. Scientific research since the mid-1970’s shows that treatment can help many people change destructive behaviors, avoid relapse, and successfully remove themselves from a life of addiction.
The addiction treatment approach at The Ambrosia Treatment Centers is designed to treat the “whole” individual.
Treating the physical part of the disease is essential. Clients must “feel good” for the other parts of sobriety to be appreciated. This is accomplished through an exercise program at our five-star gym, proper nutrition guided by a licensed nutritionist, swimming in our Olympic size pool, and participation in Holistic non-narcotic interventions such as acupuncture, massage, and hydrotherapy. |

Clients come into drug treatment believing that a counselor is going to make them better. In reality, it is the client themselves that makes this possible.
The “mental phase” of the disease is perhaps the most difficult to overcome. Most addicted people are affected by denial in one form or another. It is the number one roadblock to recovery from addiction. In most cases a treatment center cannot force clients to break their denial. The client must come to that conclusion for themselves through investigation and education. Clients come into drug treatment believing that a counselor is going to make them better. In reality, it is the client themselves that makes this possible. The counselor merely provides a path for them to take and the tools to use. Various therapies and lectures lay the groundwork in providing a firm foundation from which the newly recovering person begins his journey.
Clients are encouraged to get a temporary sponsor while in treatment.
Just as important if not more is the regular attendance at twelve step meetings. AA/NA Meetings are the lifeline for the recovering person once they are discharged from formalized treatment. We feel that it is imperative for our clients to become familiar with the process of twelve-step recovery. This begins during the admission process when they are given Step guides 1 - 3 to complete. In addition, clients are encouraged to get a temporary sponsor while in treatment. Though the above therapies are common in many treatment facilities, the thing that makes them different at Ambrosia is the size of our groups.
Our patient to counselor ratio is second to none.
With a bed capacity of twenty-two and three full-time therapists, this projects out to a seven-to-one ratio. We are able to give more individualized treatment to our clients and thus they are able to trust their counselor and other staff members more quickly.
Spirituality
 |
Last but not least we come to the “spiritual” part of the disease. In this phase the addict has lost all self-esteem, self-worth, and feels lower than ever before in their life. He/she gets depressed, feels worthless and hopeless, and is basically empty inside. Lack of spirituality is at its best when it gets the addict to lie, cheat, and steal. Eventually it comes in the form of breaking one or more of the Seven Deadly Sins of pride, envy, wrath, gluttony, lust, sloth, or greed. This becomes a way of life for some. Spiritual development can be thought of as psychological, emotional, and physical. It is sometimes looked on as an "Overwhelming Feeling Of Love For All That Is." Most addicts do not understand the concept. Those that do will be in denial about it. |
At Ambrosia, we incorporate different modalities to enhance spirituality.
Healing from a long-standing history of self-defeating behavior patterns takes time. It also takes hard work and dedication to want to change. Addicts have different ideas about what spirituality means. For some, merely the act of brushing ones teeth is a spiritual act. At Ambrosia, we incorporate different modalities to enhance spirituality. Prayer and meditation are two of the most important. Reading spiritual literature is another. Clients are given various assignments to complete that help build character. These may include workbooks on denial, acceptance, and relapse prevention.
